# Business events

> Fire a trigger when a real-world event happens at a company you're enrolled in, like funding, hiring, or leadership changes.

A business event trigger watches a set of companies for real-world signals — funding rounds, hiring surges, leadership changes, and more — and fires your instructions the moment one happens. This runs on data from Explorium, a third-party business-events provider. Create one from [Triggers](https://agent.getswan.com/triggers) → New trigger → Business Events (or go straight to [agent.getswan.com/triggers/new?type=EXPLORIUM\_BUSINESS\_EVENT](https://agent.getswan.com/triggers/new?type=EXPLORIUM_BUSINESS_EVENT)); event types and enrollment are edited later from the trigger's own Configuration tab.

## What counts as an event

Swan can watch for company-level events across categories like:

* Funding and investment: new funding rounds, new investments made by the company, IPO announcements.
* Workforce changes: hiring surges or slowdowns by department, a new executive joining, office openings or closures.
* Company milestones: new product launches, new partnerships, awards.
* Risk signals: security incidents/outages, lawsuits and legal issues, cost-cutting or layoffs, mergers and acquisitions.

When you set up the trigger, you choose which of these event types it should listen for — a trigger only fires for the categories you selected.

## Which companies get watched

You choose the companies to enroll in one or more of these ways, and can combine them:

* A manual list of company domains.
* One or more HubSpot lists.
* Filters against your own company data in Swan — revenue range, employee count, funnel stage, [ICP/target market](../data/icp-personas-and-funnel) segments, or tags.

Enrollment is per company domain within your organization, and it's shared: if the same company is already enrolled for one trigger, adding a second business-events trigger doesn't create a duplicate enrollment — it reuses the same one and matches events against whichever of your triggers is listening for that event type.

Enrollments are kept in sync once a day. Adding or removing companies (directly, or by changing which HubSpot list or filter feeds a trigger) takes effect on the next daily sync, not instantly.

## Cost

Each business event that fires a trigger costs 2 credits, on top of whatever the resulting run does. See [credits](../administration/credits).

## Common questions

**Can I get notified about a competitor's funding round without adding them as a target account?**
Yes — the companies you enroll don't need to be prospects or customers; any domain you add (manually, via a list, or via filters) can be monitored.

**What happens if a company matches more than one of my business-event triggers?**
Each enabled trigger that's listening for that specific event type fires independently.

**Can I watch for every event type without picking specific ones?**
No — you select which event categories the trigger listens for; unselected categories are ignored even for enrolled companies.

**How current is "leadership change" or "new hire" data?**
It comes from Explorium's employee and hiring signals, which reflect their own crawl and update cadence — expect some lag, not real-time hiring alerts.

**If I remove a company from my enrollment list, does it stop being monitored immediately?**
It stops the next time the daily enrollment sync runs, not immediately.
